First Battle of El Alamein
This battle was a very back and forth battle, but after a few days of fighting, Italy put a lot of tanks forward. The Allies put there tanks and their air force straight at the Italian Army. The British were running out of supplies and quit moving forward. The Germans were running out of supplies and so they decided to just play defense and build up supplies. The Axis had built up the supply levels and got more troops, in the hope Allies wouldn't send them retreating. The battle went on for a few weeks. of just back and forth, and was basically a tie. The Allies sent a storm of air force and tanks to combat the Axis tanks and destroyed their resources. With all the high amounts of casualties, 350 prisoners, the Axis would have to get many supplies in order for them to stay in the war. The Axis were practically left for dead, based off the Germany not sending them many reinforcements or to many supplies. On the other hand the Allies were getting boatloads of troops and tanks. The Battle didn't end up with any distinct winners, but many say that if anyone had weakened the other side more, it was the Allies. This in itself was a turning point, generals and both sides began to sit back for a few more days and not fight to much. After the battle, the Axis had lost 55 trucks, 6 tanks, and lost 531 men. The Allies had taken 1,680 sorties(movements of troops or vehicles). Suffering from such large losses they needed to refuel up fast and prepare for the upcoming battle in August.
